In November 2013, a little over a year after beginning to work at the Costume Institute, I was invited to speak with esteemed material culture professor and scholar Giorgio Riello by Bard Graduate Center for their Cultures of Conservation initiative. The title of my talk was The Materiality of Fashion: A Subjective View.  In it, I tried out some ideas about the role of conservation in fashion curation.  I’m so glad I’ve gone back to school at BGC, as I’m now able to more fully realize and theorize these ideas I was only then beginning to test out.  You can watch the full event here, with my talk starting around the 40 minute mark.
